History...

United Commodity Group, Inc. was founded in 1996, but our history goes back even further. Bud Zecman, our founder, has been in the food business for over 30 years, involved in both commodity and non-Commodity food distribution.

United Commodity Group began commodity processing in our home state of Michigan and branched into neighboring states. As our knowledge about commodity processing grew, so did the business, and the need for expansion became apparent.

Over the next several years, UCG added knowledgeable and customer focused staff members and moved into a new state-of-the-art office building.  United Commodity Group has become a leader in providing innovative commodity solutions to school systems, distributing agencies, and manufacturers. Today, United Commodity Group is a strong presence in the commodity processing business. We continue to expand our offerings and add value to USDA commodities for customers nationwide. We are also active members of the American Commodity Distribution Association (ACDA) and American School Food Service Association (ASFSA), which allow us to be involved with current processing policies.

United Commodity Group is dedicated to achieving its goal of becoming the leader in commodity processing and providing the highest quality non-commodity menu solutions for the K-12 market.  In 2005, UCG launched a full scale program to supply non-commodity processed foods to schools nationwide.  In fact, nearly all commodity processed items that we offer are available with a commercial equivalent.  This means you can always have consistent product, even in lieu of USDA commodities.  Our other commercial food products are unique items that are not always found with traditional K-12 foodservice distributors.  This, along with our innovative distribution model, sets us apart from the competition.
